International
Table Tennis Federation Star Player of 2014, Aruna Quadri, has dropped 15
places from 45th to 60th in the July ITTF rankings.
Quadri,
who remains Nigeria’s highest-ranked table tennis player with 2183 points, has
been struggling in the rankings since January when he was ranked 30th.
He
was ranked 32nd in February, 31st in March, 38th in April, 44th in May and 45th
in June.
Quadri
performed below expectations when he was ousted in the first round at the ITTF
World Championships in Suzhou, China in April and finished in the quarterfinals
at the ITTF World Tour in Zagreb in May.
Veteran
Nigeria star Segun Toriola also dropped from 162nd to 171st, scoring 1846
points. Ojo Onaolapo was ranked 356th, Abdulrahman Abdullahi 401st, Makanjuola
Kazeem 454th, and Olawale Olaniyi 578th.
China
continued to dominate the top 10 with Ma Long still number one and Xu Xin
number two. Fan Zhendong remains number three and Zhang Jike number four.
Japanese
Mizutani Jun took the fifth position followed by Germany’s Ovtcharov Dimitrij in
the sixth position.
Another
German Boll Timo came seventh followed by Samsonov Vladimir of Bulgaria in the
eighth place. China’s Fang Bo took the ninth position while portugals’ Freitas
Marcus was ranked 10th.
In
the women’s rankings, Funke Oshonaike, who remains the highest-ranked Nigerian,
dropped 30 places from 220th to 250th, scoring 1821 points.
Offiong
Edem improved from 265th to 260th while Cecilia Akpan dropped from 325th to
321st. Janet Effiom went from 484th to 491st while Atinuke Olaide remains in
505th position. However, Halima Hussain moved from 514th to 512th.
